Murdoch Mysteries returns — and Ottawa is on the case

A special episode of Murdoch Mysteries Season 19 is coming to Ottawa! The long-running Canadian television favourite will be shooting this July in Canada’s capital, marking a unique storyline that brings Detective William Murdoch to new historic surroundings. Fans can expect the signature blend of mystery, period detail and inventive detective work all on the backdrop of Ottawa, Canada.

As part of the production, Shaftesbury and Ottawa Tourism have partnered to invite fans to become part of the action. The Murdoch in Ottawa contest offers an exclusive opportunity to join the cast and crew for an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience.

Be part of the mystery with the Murdoch in Ottawa contest

Fans of the show have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to step into Murdoch’s world. The Murdoch in Ottawa contest is now live, and one lucky winner (and a guest) will receive:

  • Four nights at the Lord Elgin hotel for up to two people
  • Round-trip transportation (air or train)
  • Two 3-day Visit Ottawa Passes 
  • Two VIP tickets to Murdoch Mysteries in Concert with the NAC Orchestra
  • A VIP experience including: a walk-on background role in an episode of Murdoch Mysteries, lunch on set and the chance to meet the Murdoch Mysteries cast. The winner and their guest will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in the show, dressed in 1911-era costume.

Where is Murdoch Mysteries filmed?

Murdoch Mysteries is primarily filmed in and around Toronto, Ontario, with sets and locations that bring early 20th-century Canada to life. Over the years, the series has also filmed in other locations across the country to match storylines, including Kingston, Stratford, and now, Ottawa. The Ottawa episode will feature iconic landmarks and immersive historical settings, adding a fresh backdrop to the beloved show.

Has Murdoch come to Ottawa before?

Murdoch Mysteries last filmed in Ottawa in 2012 for Season 5, Episode 12, titled “Murdoch Night in Canada.” The episode followed Detective Murdoch and Inspector Brackenreid as they traveled to Ottawa to investigate a scandal involving hockey, politics, and murder. Fans may recognize local landmarks that were featured, and this return to the capital in Season 19 offers a brand-new storyline with exciting guest locations.

Keep the mystery alive at Murdoch Mysteries in Concert with the NAC Orchestra

The excitement continues offscreen with Murdoch Mysteries: Live in Concert on July 10 and 11, an unforgettable concert at the National Arts Centre that brings the beloved series to life in a new way.

Hosted by series star Yannick Bisson and featuring the National Arts Centre Orchestra, this exclusive event invites fans behind the scenes to discover how music shapes the emotion and drama of Murdoch Mysteries. Award-winning composer Rob Carli will share insights into his creative process, showing how pivotal scenes come to life through music.

The experience includes a full screening of the thrilling episode “Murder in F Major,” accompanied by a live orchestral score performed in real time. Perfect for fans and families alike, this unforgettable evening fuses television and live performance in a celebration of storytelling and sound.
